If you have ever lost a legitimate message in your junk folder, then this plug in is for you. Geobytes' Message Keys for Outlook automatically finds and recovers messages that your spam filter has mistaken for spam.
What is it?
It is a new breed of software known as a Spam Filter Companion - it runs along side your existing Spam Filter to correct Spam filter mistakes. It works by inserting unique "keys" in to each instance of your email address, and then checking for the existence, and validity of these keys in incoming messages. For the technically inclined, Message Keys for Outlook (also referred to as M4Outlook) is a "plug-in" for Microsoft Outlook that implements the client side of an Email Permission Keys System.
What email has your Spam Filter lost today?
Try this.. open your junk folder and have a look. If you don't already check your spam folder frequently, then you might be surprised at what you find. Spam filters lose all kinds of message, most of them go un-noticed, but they all do you harm. Some of them can be devastating.

Email Permission Keys, or Message Keys are just a way of embedding a code in to an email address in such a way that the code is persevered during normal use.
There are three different types of base keys, and numerous types of hybrid keys.

Everyone has an email address, but do they have your address? If so, then how did they get it? Unlike your house keys, you give your email address out to everyone. You put it on your business card, you email it to a friend, who forwards it to a mutual friend, but typically and most frequently you distribute it insentiencely - as it goes out in every message that you send.
There are of course other ways that people acquire your email address. Following is a brief summary of each method along with the preferred form of permission key that is best suited for distribution via that method.

Permission Keys work by providing information to the Spam Filtering Engine on how the email address was acquired by the sender. As mentioned previously, this is achieved by embedding a unique code, or key at the point of email address acquisition, and then checking any incoming messages for a valid key, thereby ensuring that they are not mistakenly miss-classified as Spam. |

Message Keys for Outlook is currently in Beta. There are a number of reasons why we are holding the plug-in "beta" - the main one being that the two auxiliary key issuing facilities - the web service that allows you to publish a dynamically keyed instance of your email address on your own web page, and a facility whereby you can manually issue a keyed instance of your email address - say to publish on your business card, are both still under development, and should come on line in the next month or so, (and certainly by the end of July 09). So in the meantime, we will be keeping the plug-in in beta.
